Stockyard Days
Every local Twin City community seem to have their own weekend festival. In New Brighton where we call home the festival name is Stock Yard Days in early August. The reason it is named Stock Yard days goes to the past, a hundred years ago when New Brighton was known for the place the train dropped off the cows for processing at the stock yards.
Stock Yard Days have changed over the years. Now it is known as much for the antique car run from New London to New Brighton in 100-year-old cars and Steam mobiles. There are about 20 cards that make the run every year. There was a time they came past our home, and it was very entertaining. But you can also visit Long Lake Park to see the cars where most of the festival including fireworks are held.
This year we marched in the parade with a Group from St Johns Catholic school & church. We got school points for doing so. The kids threw… wait once we were specifically told NOT to THROW… candy as we walked the two-mile parade route on Saturday.
Stock Yard Days is a great small-town festival if you have nothing to do in early August. Hope to see you there!
