Welcome to North Country! You had better find something to do in the cold winter months. Or you will go nuts. At Minot AFB in the 1980s, we stopped working on aircraft when the chill factor went below -65 below. We went three weeks one year. THAT’s a LOT of time indoors. Thankfully we had good cable and a good video store.  One of the guys would rent old movies depicting the world during the fun times the 1920s, 30s and 50s. I learned about some of the seasoned Hollywood type

s and venues. Especially learned about New York Cities Hottest Club The Copa Cabana! Named after the party beach in Rio, Brazil.
My lady schedules us in some interesting places. I never look in advance and rarely know much about the venues. I LIKE the shock value at times, kind of helps to bring spirit to my reviews. The other night after the wine tasting I asked NOW WHERE? She said On Snelling North of County C and Byerlys/Lunds. The place north of the Ford Dealer next to our Dr at North Suburban Family medical. This is a bar/club we have gone to for 20 years. I think it is the third or fourth name it has been known by. We always knew it by Grumpys. It is huge, has a nice patio and without question has been a party club.

As we walked in with the hanging plants and multiple levels and the lights I said we are in the Copa Cobana the hottest club in NYC from the 40s to 70s. This is a venue, I saw in old movies, that has seen everyone from Groucho Marx to Barry Manilow and anyone who is anyone in between. I had hoped to return to a different time and tonight it would happen. As we walked around this mammoth facility seeing group parties and singing happy birthday by the staff I heard it. It was ROB LOWE from St Elmos Fire on the Saxophone walking around. We were not ONLY in the COPA but also in the St Elmos Fire Bar. If you don’t know St Elmos Bar, look it up it was one of the greatest movies of the 80s: Rob Lowe, Demi, Emilo, Judd, Ally and Andie MacDowell. OK, in this case Rob Lowe happened to be a black guy, but the Saxophone was perfect to what Robe Lowe played in the movie. OMG Talk about a Latin Party Bar/Restaurant.
Let you be forewarned the place is new and not everything may go as planned. But we were in The Copa/St Elmos Fire party bar… who cares. And the perfect place to take your group of friends.

That said the menu needs work. Remember when we went to GAI we loved the simplicity of a two-page menu. Well, this one had a dozen pages. We eat a good amount of Latin Food so it couldn’t have been difficult. On my third pass through trying to read a tiny print on a black menu I spied Fajitas. E said SOLD. I guess this was a rare night I was ordering for BOTH of us. She could find nothing that met her fancy. There are a lot of options, the problem is TOO many options.

The wine was much easier. Though at Mito umbrella drinks were probably the choice of the night, Mito had four red wines: a Noir, a Sangiovese, a Merlot and a Cab Sav. We were happy. E had the Cab Sav for $22 like usual and I went off Latin region with the Sangiovese for $14. The wines were a good pour and were good. As I said earlier it took a couple of trips for the wine guy to be told which wine was which. Part of the romance of the newness of the place.

We then started to eat the Birria Nachos for $22. It was good. That said some pig ate every last morsel. Hey, I was hungry, and we were waiting on food while watching the birthday party celebrations. You might be able to find a drop dead gorgeous he or she at a 20s party bar like this. The scenery was some of the best we have seen in the cities.

So, with time Denise, our young Latin server, brought this HUGE plate of Fajitas. The Fajita was $55 but I thought needing a goose neck trailer and four big guys to bring it to our table was a bit much. It was very good both that night and the Saturday after at home.
Our bill was $126 for an app, three wines and a huge Fajita which was fine. Everything including the food & wait staff were very good. Will we go back? If we are getting the gang back together that is the place, we will be going. Mito the Party Place!
