Lindsey Steak House

Lindsey Steak House Cty Rd E and Snelling has been a staple for 50 years. It was established in 1958. It looks like an old cabin on the lake. It’s mostly a local’s place. We haven’t gone there in 20 years though we too are locals. This year we are taking a look at our favorite places we once went to eat and said why not give Lindsey’s another go, so we did.

As we always go out on Friday night at about 7 PM after tasting wine at North Loop we typically like to have reservations since this is absolutely prime time. So, a couple of weeks ago E TRIED to get reservations at Lindsey. They wanted us to download an app from Yelp. We don’t download apps just to get a reservation to give someone our $. So, E called in the reservations, and all was fine.

We arrived at 7 and were promptly seated.  There was only one other couple there at that time and they were seated at the same time.
If you want the general atmosphere at Lindsey, it is the local Supper Club. The average age is 50+ though there were some families. It’s a place to order steak and potato, Something, we do at home but rarely when we go out.
I would be fine having a Friday night steak but then watch our bill approach $200 instead of the $100 we try to keep it at so most our readers can afford it. But we like showing you a lot of places so to save $ we stay away from steak at restaurants. That and I always compare the steak to a Morellis steak on our 8’ grill on our back deck next to a fire and no restaurant can touch it.
Lindsey Steak house has a very limited menu. In fact, they have a sign with the menu on it they bring to your table. They have three steaks plus shrimp ranging from $28 - $40. You can also add a plate of caramelized Mushrooms, which we did.

Well, we ordered the Full Monty. The $40 Lindsey Special Sirloin, plus the broiled Shrimp, by-passed the two other steaks and added mushrooms. The whole menu minus two! With that came a hashbrown potato platter. With our order also came a salad each and a bread basket. Just like we were home in WI & SD.

For wines they had about 20 mostly under $10. And full bar service. We had a Cab & a Zin. Good pours but mostly forgettable. In a place like Lindseys, I bet you could order a Brandy Old Fashioned that would be one of the best in the state. But alas we are wine people.

If you want fast service few can match Lindsey. As great gracious waitresses do, they waited for the previous course for us to be finished waited a couple of minutes and brought the steak, shrimp, mushrooms, and potatoes. Great waitressing is a lost art.

The steak they brought for us the share, was the size of your fist. E told me they use the Sous method, to boil the steak in a bag for hours until cooked and them put it on the grill for a few minutes for some color. However, it was done correctly, I absolutely could not cook a steak that size on my grill and it was a very good steak. And large enough E & I finished the last of it Saturday morning.

The grilled shrimp were as good as anywhere we have gone. But the quantity of mushrooms & potatoes, though tasty, would have fed my flight of 50 hungry teenagers at USAF basic training at Lackland AFB. Ok we got more than we could eat.

Lindsey Steak House though they have nine-foot ceilings was amazingly quiet though we sat in a smaller side dining room.  The place is open 11 AM to 10 PM Monday to Saturday so I bet they have a great lunch.

If you are looking for a great supper Club a few miles north of Rosedale and want to go back in time when they still had phone booths, great food and great service give Lindseys a try. Our bill was $122 including two glasses of wine about the price you would pay for any good meal in the metro. We’ll be back!
