Khans Mongolian Stir Fry Oct 2025
In the past few years E & I have gone to hundreds of restaurants in the metro and beyond. Despite hundreds of return-to options we have about a dozen restaurants we go to every year or so. Khans Mongolian Stir Fry of Roseville has been a regular for us for decades. Others on that list include the Hewing, Elements Pizza, La Casita, WA Frost, La Grolla and a few like Skybar and the Viking Bar that are no longer open. If there is one thing in common with them it is the nice attentive people serving great food at a reasonable price. It’s “Thanks for joining us it’s nice to see you” instead of “here’s your menus.”
With Khans our regular status goes back to the 90s. It was early in our marriage, and we were counting pennies on occasion. Khans was reasonably priced, unusual, good and always friendly as it still is now. Khans is also a fun place to take people. Minutes after being seated and ordering drinks everyone goes to the food bar and fills their plate with any combination of what it seems like 50 meats, vegetables, sauces and other things. Then takes it over to the stir fryers at the open wok stir fry stations and watch their creations be cooked on a common stove/wok. During that wait you are welcome to tip them and touch the gong.
Now when I am there, the word “Touch” is taken to extremes. Again, we have been going there for decades. Khans Mongolian Stir Fry is owned by a white guy and at a time most of the cooks where from our country to the south. To honor those great cooks, I would yell “VIVA Mehico!” and HIT the gong. It would turn a few heads and get a few laughs from the cooks. It was fun and they still remember me. As I repeated this time again.
This is a place that gives you meat options of: beef, pork, crab, chicken, lamb, shrimp, squid, Tilapia, Tofu and God know what else I just put a bit of everything on it. Then you proceed to the vegetables which include carrots, watercress, onions, potatoes, corn, celery, cabbage, broccoli, tomatoes, pea pods, sprouts, pineapple, peas, tiny corn cobs. Three kinds of noodles, then eight sauces including Garlic, House Mild, House spicy, dragon, Sesame Oil, Cooking wine, Teriyaki, Lobster, Cury, Seafood & black bean sauce. This place offers you combinations like nowhere else.
And the beauty is ten minutes after you sit down, with no wait, and you are eating. Eating something YOU personally selected and at the same time you normally get drinks in most restaurants you are eating. It’s a fun place to go, take friends and try something different.
We go to Khans Mongolian Stir Fry in Roseville across Snelling & County C from Byerlys just north of Rosedale usually twice a year and it’s always an event. And at $75 including drinks it is one of the cheapest restaurants we go to.
Quick story: Our son took his winter carnival date there. When we were about to pay, we walked to their table and the waiter laughed and said their bill was paid. Some couple there thought they were such a cute couple, so my son’s bill was paid for them. So just nice people that own and eat there.
Again, it is on our short list of great fun places to eat in the metro.
