We were looking forward to going to Jefe Urban Cocina on St Anthony Maine over-looking downtown Mpls.

We arrived at Jefe after parking in the ramp across the street from St Anthony. We then followed the signs through St Anthony Main which is under construction, at the end of which is Jefe.

We walked in and the place looked like a haunted house with dim lighting and candles on each table. Jefe is located next to Fisherman's Wharf on old downtown Main Street.

There was a matradee area but no one there. So, we stood for a minute or so until we were taken to our table next to the window over-looking downtown. There are few views in the metro better than what we had. We over-looked the Mississippi River & St Anthony Falls and downtown. If you are looking for a romantic venue, there are few better at any restaurant we have been to.

Jefe Urban Cocina is known for it's Mexican street food and a small plate menu. Think taco's or anything on a corn tortilla, and that is exactly what was on the menu in addition to a matching drink menu. But fear not if you drink wine they have a Cab, Tempranillo which we had and a Malbec in case the first two do not meet your fancy. The wines & pours were good.

We had the Jefe Sampler for $13 which was a trio of salsas: Sikil P'ak, crema Agria and guacamole plus chips. It was a good starter app. E liked it better than I did. I did not think there was a great difference in flavours.

Next we had Birria de Res for $16. Which was three braised Tacos with fennel & onion, Oaxaca & fresno crema with a bowl of savory broth for dipping. The Tacos were about the size of a hand and I felt again lacked distinctive flavor.

Lastly we had an Enchilada de Puerco for $16. Which was an Enchiladas stuffed with shredded pork, pinto beans & avocado served with saffron rice, Salsa roja, pickled onions, radish and cotija, fresno crema & cilantro.  I thought it was was good but nothing to write home about.

Our server was ok but not very social. Our total bill was $98.86 which was fine for us but the place just did not wow us at all. It's an interesting romantic place especially the view but just not a place we would return to.
