E & I went on a 14 cruise around the Med in May. We missed our connection in Frankfort Germany on the way home. That could have been because a dozen people needed to be taken off our ship with IVs to the tune of $2K each, delaying the rest of us because they drank too much in the hot tub on the ship instead of getting up, some call exercise, and ended in the medical ward. Idiots.
So any way we came back into the US through New Jersey. There we waited for two hours to be processed with a few hundred people, just wanting to get back in the US and to home. Periodically we would see people by-pass our two hour line and go directly through customs. When I got to the front I ask security what was their status. We were told THEY had Global Entry. Then we asked: “What IS this magical ticket?” It seems for a couple of hundred dollars, a fifteen minute document gather and a five minute interview we TOO could avoid the two hour line for he next five years. About a week after we got home we started the process.
Global entry costs $120. Each for five years and includes TSA Precheck Which is normally $78 . It involves submitting your passports, drivers lisc and five year of proof of residency, proof of being a good citizen and a five minute interview. It took us about a month start to finish.
You start by going on line to https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-entry
Have your drivers lisc & passport and TSA # at hand. It took about fifteen minutes each. It takes longer to gather your paperwork than apply. After we applied online E&I had to do an interview near baggage claim at the MSP Airport. We set up our appointment for 2:30, we arrived at 1:50 were taken in for questioning and fingerprinting at 1:00 and we were done before our appointment time.
They asked the same questions as TSA or drivers license. We are set now both for TSA and Global Entry… Noth’n but SMILES thinking of the upcoming lines we will avoid.
