Tonight we are in Roseville at Chianti Grill next to the Harmar Mall

We have been coming here for about 30 years and have never had a bad experience. It moved to this location a few years ago it used to be a mile or so away at Snelling & Larpenteur.

Previously it was named Ciantis.

And was a very popular pace as it is now. But Ciantis was known for pasta at a time that people were watching their weight and not eating pastas. So the owners changed the name to Chianti Grill which sounded better for their diet.

We got reservations for tonight at 5 PM so we had to settle for 7:45 reservations. We wanted to go to  Victors 1950 Cafe a fun eclectic Cuban Restaurant in South Minneapolis, with GREAT FOOD.

But due to lack of staff Victors 1959 is no longer open evenings… sad. But something we will all need to deal with. So expect dinner prices to go up if you want places open

One of the problems in eating in the Burbs is a wait to get stable you just don’t find in the city. With a later reservation we went to North Loop wine & Spirits for a nice free 6 wine tasting

E had a Rodney Strong Cab Sav from Sonoma. I had the Sycamore house Merlot. The pours are OK, both wines are good.

We were seated within a couple minutes of our reservations, after 2 minutes getting our wine in the bar, where people without reservations were eating.

Tim was our waiter. He made an interesting statement asking if we wanted all the three courses we ordered all at once or serially. Why anyone would want all their food at once escapes me… but some people are strange. But at least we were given a option. Which is appreciated.

We had Calamari for an appetizer for $15.  It came with White & red sauce. This is some the freshes largest serving of Calamari we have had in a long time. It was a great start.

We were brought a plate of Bruschetta  bread with olive oil and basaltic vinegar for a bread course. A bit more than we Needed, but it was good.

For the second course we had a Orange Salmon Salad. This could easily be a dinner all to itself. There was a large piece of cooked salmon with spinach greens, with raisins and orange slices all as fresh as if they grew them just outside.

Our entree was Penne Toscana with red sauce and portobello mushrooms. This year we are getting into the earthiness of mushrooms and this dish had all the mushroom & red sauce one could ask for. Also there was the flavor of the sausage on a great pizza. It was served to us by one of the chefs which more restaurants should do.

Our bill was an amazing low $52 add to that $20 for wines bought at the bar. WE thought that the cost was very reasonable for a great Italian meal, we most definitely will be back.
