Tonight, we are at Andiamo Italian Ristorante on Snelling in St Paul. Though we go to and review 40+ restaurants a year we rarely go to chain restaurants. Why? We rent cars about yearly. Cars like restaurants have a feeling all their own kind of like restaurants. Did you ever get a car that was just fine for what you need it for? Andiamo Italian Ristorante, a chain Italian Restaurant, was just that fine.
At Spoon & Stable you get to see Gavins Spoon collection and if you are lucky you get to hear the interesting history that goes with the collection. A few blocks down the road Maison Margaux you get to try some bread seeded from bread made 150 years ago. At Cosetta’s Italian from St Paul over the past 100 years they have been open, you may have had a gangster sitting where you are. These may be a bit on the extreme side, but they are something to look for at a unique single the restaurant. Andiamo was fine. We had no owner walk up and talk. We had no chef with ratings from France or an interesting past. Andiamo was fine.
Andiamo is a good Italian restaurant just south of midway. But nothing to write home about. The wine selection was good. E had a Louis Cab for $12 and I had a Gascon Malbec for $9 both reasonably priced. My Malbec was better than E’s Cab. They have a good selection of wines: four house wines for $6, 17 reds and ten whites and three sparkling’s.
For an appetizer we had Garlic bread with Mozzarella for $10.50. Kinda like little Pizzas. We split a Tomato Spinach salad that they nicely served each our own plate. That was good. Then we split a plate of Manicotti which was good but not spectacular. Our bill was $64.27 or interestingly $61.78 if you pay with cash which must be a new thing. So, the bill was almost $30 under what we normally pay. So, if you are on a budget!
The place was very big and open, so you do not get the loud chatter that some restaurants have. They have a take-out kiosk so if you are in the area that might be an option. So, if you are looking for a nice reasonably price to have some Mediterranean food you should give Andiamo a try.
