1010 Liquor

We taste wine nearly every Friday night. We watch the evening national news and then seriously need to drink.

For the last few years that has meant at 6:30 on a Friday night we are at North Loop Wine & Spirits on Washington a couple of blocks from the Twins stadium. 

Every week there is a different local distributor presenting six wines for free with Free Parking. Most their wines are good but perhaps not great. With six a night, twenty four a month we will buy a bottle or two a month typically at about $25 with the 10% discount.

To go with our blog ToDOTC we like to try new things. One night we ask one of the presenters where there was other good tastings on Friday night. We already knew of Solo Vino on Selby in St Paul and 44 & France in Edina, both a bit of a drive for us.

But the answer we got was 1010 Liquor a dozen blocks away from North Loop. 

So this past week we chose to try 1010 Liquor instead of North Loop. 1010 Liquor is a block or two from Washington & 35W toward downtown. 

One of the things we like about North Loop is Free Parking as well as Free wine. Well we found out 1010 Liquor offers the same. Though the parking can be a bit to find. The lot is three-quarters around the building from the entrance. There are signs but perhaps not enough. Just drive around the block and you will find it.

There is a parking garage with a door to 1010, it is VERY convenient. 

So we went in for the tasting by the entrance.  It was a nice tasting table manned by Mitch. He was very gracious and knew us from our wine club and his wine.

Those important difference is he simply had better wine and yes we bought a bottle. One of the things we absolutely hate about mst wine tastings is newbees pressing up against the table keeping anyone from reading thee bottles or getting taste. It's ALL ABOUT THEM! There was none of that at 1010.

That said this was our first time and we are going again this Friday so we'll see. 

Also North Loop has cute dogs & kids you will not find at 1010 and a smaller crowd. But we were told we just missed a big crowd.

The presenter was very informative. And he knew Lisa & the staff of North Loop. 

We will be curious has our second tasting at 1010 goes, we'll be there Friday night. So we will update this accordingly. We have no issues tasting wine in both places. 

1010 Washington was also tasting locally made O'Shaughnessy whiskey that night, so they have more than one tasting at a time.

We will be returning to 1010 Washington Liquors and support these nice people.
