We are in the Wayzata Yacht Club. Do we own a boat… hell no.
Do you know what the work BOAT means? Bring Out Another Thousand.
The Wayzata Yacht Club has is a Sail Boat Club.
Most Sail Boats can NOT be operated by one or two people. Thus sailboats need a crew of 3-4 extra people.
It is not always easy to FIND 3-4 extra people who will show up when you desire to sail. Thus the Wayzata and MOST OTHER Sail boat AKA Yacht Clubs try to recruit people like us… we are called CREW.
E&I do not own a boat. Will that ALWAYS be true… let me add THIS YEAR to that, just to be safe. Membership at the Wayzata Yacht Club is under $200 a year, which INCLUDES: parking, attending most events and sailing. It’s a GREAT DEAL.
And E&I will occasionally go out to the Club on a Sunday night, get Chipolte a mile away, bring a bottle of Josh and veg out at our CABIN on the lake. Costs us $300/year… including Taxes… we buy the NICE parking spaces!
The people at the Wayzata Yacht Club are some of the nicest people we have ever met in the metro. Remember they need people to pull ropes for sails… why would they NOT want to be nice to you.
The Wayzata Yacht Club sail and have competition about 5 days a week. And if you want to go out on a sail boat come sit on the I WANNA BE CREW table and you may get a free ride. Bring a 6 pack of beer and your odds increase dramatically.
Anyway their website is www.WYC.org and they have a regular newsletter you get if you are a member. The regularly have burgers & beer event which are incredible.
Anyway… in the spring April/May they have weekly classes to learn about sailing and racing. I think they are $20 a night which includes beer & cookies. They have three weekly indoor classes and three on the water classes. It’s a great way to start.
