St Johns of New Brighton Catholic Church Outdoor Mass
We do a lot of things every week. Many of which we write about. Are they all worthy, I don’t know. But people like to see their events promoted and have options of things TO DO. This is one of those times I could have gone either way in writing about this.
That said outdoor masses to me is a unique thing in Minnesota. We had one in my St Johns Church in central WI in my youth, when the church chose to recarpet the church one summer.
For St Johns of New Brighton this is the year we are repainting the ceiling of the church which is about four stories up. So, Father Paul is finding ways to continue mass without using the mass area. Sometimes he uses St Joes Hall where we hold events and on this day we had mass in the park.
So, on Sunday morning we moved mass to the Long Lake Regional Park a mile or so from the Church and with a LOT of help including our Knights of Columbus gentlemen Father Paul pulled it off with GREAT SUCCESS!
There was about three hundred people that braved a blue sky and 75-degree weather to hear and see mass at Lions Park at Long Lake Regional park.
E and I drove through about 9:30 after taking the dogs for a walk to see if they needed help, but all was set. We returned about 45 minutes later, on our Tandem E bike from about two miles away.
The event went on flawlessly. Well, we thought so as watchers. But Father with his ear-to-ear smile mentioned the Lord must have been with us that morning for the trains were very quiet, the weather stayed nice and with a little chuckle Father said and the winds were calm until the blessing of the host was complete at which time a wind came through and took out all the candles.
The mass went well and took about 45 minutes exactly as Catholic masses should and following the Knights of Columbus treated us to burgers and hot dogs for a great brunch.
It was one of the most entertaining masses we have been to in years. Add to that father who’s message is on Facebook several times a day has added that paper thin hosts we enjoy is now available in Low Gluten … what will they think of NEXT!
