We like steak. We are not too choosy as long as it is good old American beef. Now that might be US American or Argentinian American. We don’t order it often at restaurants because we try to keep our total bill under $100 and steak besides being expensive is difficult to split.
Porzana, is a restaurant that moved into what once was the Eric & Andrew Dayton Brothers Bachelor Farmer Restaurant that closed during Covid. That’s at the corner of 2nd & 1st street a block, on the river a block from the Minneapolis Post office, in case you don’t get downtown to the North Loop area. A few times a year E&I have a restaurant we REALLY look forward to. Argentina Steak? It was something I look forward to for months. And they did not let us down.
First they have $15 Valet Parking in a safe area that have limited parking, use it. The interior of Porzana takes you to turn of LAST century old brick Minneapolis. The building has been preserved beautifully.
Porzana has a great wine list featuring some of my favorites from Argentina. I ordered a Malbec from Mendoza, Argentina. E had a Cab Sav from Uco, Argentina. Both were great wines from a great wine country!
To give you a feeling how turn of the century the place is, they have an oyster bar. One of just a handful in the Twin Cities. Some of our friends absolutely love it, we will pass with no comment.
One of the problems of being a foodie is you can not taste what you see on cooking shows. Even though everyone in the show thinks it is heavenly, doesn’t mean you are going to like it, not unlike wine.
I know if I order a Hanger steak it is going to be great especially at Porzana for $26 and it sure was. And it LOOKED like a piece of art. E on the other hand wanted to TRY Something. SO. Seeing it on TV she tried the Pesto Gnocchi for $26. It was absolutely too intense for her tastes, and she only tasted a bit. A little later the manager did a walk by and asked about her not eating it. She explained she wanted it, she ordered it but didn’t realize how intense it was. He said, let me take it off your bill. We feel if we order something, AND it is not poorly prepared we should pay for what we ordered. But he insisted and took her Gnocchi off our bill. Again, we preferred to pay for it but it was his choice.
People asked what it takes to put a restaurant in the upper tier for us. This is a perfect example. They want their patrons to have a pleasant meal. And we will remember this and tell people for years. Simply one minute of the manager asking how our meal was. And one in ten restaurants will ever take that minute that is more than a little appreciated.
Our bill was $85 with one entrée missing it is a bit more pricey than many places we eat but for the steak meal it is worth it. Yes, we will be back! And YOU should too!
