Milly’s Wine Bar & Bistro

If we used the number of breweries as a gauge of the number of Wine bars, we need a TON more wine bars to keep up.

So, when we were asked to attend Gary’s (Wine & Comedy group Gary) going away party we thought why not. Milly’s is at 1129 Washington in Mpls. Across the bridge from seven Corners and a block or so toward Mpls from 35W.

That night we tasted wine at 1010 Washington Wine store before we went to a block walk up Washington to Milly’s. I love it when a plan comes together.
Milly’s, is a nice wine bar. A place you can take friends and business associates a like. And the wine & food are upscale and good. Not something one can say about MOST wine bars in the Twin Cities. It’s clean with high acoustical ceilings, plenty of new tables & chairs to sit on and a staff that can tell the difference between a Chardonnay and a Malbec. All of which are appreciated.

We joined a table upstairs. Which stairs and drinking establishments are not always great, Surley has an elevator… But it was a nice-safe-stairs.

They have an incredible selection of wines and Happy Hour specials. The only issue I have with that is I REALLY do not need TWO good pours of wine. I’ll milk my one glass of Noir for an hour. And my agreement with my Dr was two glasses of wine a day and after a tasting of six, I was pushing it. I would prefer a buck or two off glass number two. But hey they know what works.

They have a fun selection of wines including both vertical & horizontal flights. I don’t remember ever seeing that locally. And some very unusual wines. It’s a fun experience rarely found in the cities for those that have advanced past the NFL wine Barefoot.

An important part of wine is food. And we had a nice size cheese board for $25 that fed E & I. Our final bill was $61 for two wines that ended up being four, with happy hour, and the cheese plate.

We will definitely return to Milly’s if we have friends that want to get together and taste wine. They did a great job with the place.
