Hiawatha Falls

If you are looking for a fun outdoor trip for a few hours for both old and young, Hiawatha Falls is a great trip. Other than parking, which was $3, it’s one of the best free things the Twin Cities has to offer. Well, that is if you go when water is coming down the falls or in the winter time when it’s ice.
We took our 4 & 7 year old grandkids the other day. They both had a blast. They enjoyed seeing the waterfall from many angles. We did not walk the lower area along the stream below the falls, but that we’ll do another day.
There are also peddle cars to rent for up to four people to tour the park, which we may do in the future. There was a dozen of them running around the place. But there are also great bike trails if you bring your bikes.
I have never seen a good explanation of Henry Wadswoth Longfellow from 1855 and his Poem The Song of Hiawatha but perhaps I missed it. A bit of reading on the web at www.hwlongfellow.org might add to the day.

There are two places to eat: Sea Salt with a huge line. People RAVE of the food of Sea Salt. We ate in the other half of the building at the sandwich area. Sorry no burgers, fries or Hot dogs, it will be sandwiches, which were good.
Allow at least an hour to walk around the park and falls. It’s a fun trip.
