If you are looking for a place to run dogs or get out in nature and Forest Lake is not too far, you want to go to Carlos Avery Wildlife area. Carlos Avery WMA is basically 4-5 miles east of Forest lake. It is 17,000 acres in size, that’s 45 square miles. We took our Hunter Safety Classes there to practice shooting .22s at their range. Yes selective areas are open to hunting. We use it to Run Dogs. Let the dogs off the leash and let them go. Usually you can walk for an hour and never see anyone. Most entrances have parking lots and grass trails. It’s a way to get back to nature 20-30 miles away. But Don’t Tell No ONE!
